-The Cathedral's history goes back to 597AD
-In 1170 Archbishop Thomas Becket was murdered in the Cathedral
-He was murdered by the king's men because he said he wanted someone to rid him of the Archbishop, and the knights thought he really ment it.
-Ever since, the Cathedral has attracted thousands of pilgrims, as told famously in Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales.
-A modern memorial, at the place where he was slain, marks the martyrdom of Thomas Becket.
-Two ragged steel swords and a broken sword point throw a striking shadow behind a bare stone altar.
-It is visited as much today as it ever has been.
